About Venture Summit

Venture Summit is an intensive one day conference dedicated to discussion about different ways of startup funding and connected topics. The goal of this event is to gather people from startup ecosystem in the Czech Republic and Silicon Valley to challenge the status quo and common practice in local startup funding. This is done by series of panel discussions, workshops and keynotes by experienced Czech and international guests.

Special guest will be prof. Ikhlaq Sidhu, founder of the Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of California, Berkeley, CA. He will deliver keynote about mentality of Silicon Valley investors/startups, their mindset, low risk aversity and why this makes the difference.

Program Detail

What are the differences in the startup funding in the Czech Republic and the USA? How investors approach startups? What terms they offer and what startups should accept? What is the logic behind the investments and return on investment and how are the startups valued? Not only these questions will be answered during the Venture Summit in Prague.

    A world-class expert in technology innovation and leadership in "real-life". Invented the technology used in Skype and other internet communications (over 60 patents). Developed the Data-X project. Started 4 new companies (3 still active). Founded the Entrepreneurship & Technology center at the #1 public university in the world - UC Berkeley.

    What VC's look for?

    Guillaume Fournier (Credo Ventures)
    Guillaume joined Credo Ventures after obtaining his MBA from INSEAD. He first started his career with an internship at Goldman Sachs in the US, and then worked as a strategy consultant in Kaiser Associates' London office. He also spent a year gaining experience in VC as an associate in newly established fund Athene Capital. Guillaume enjoys bouldering, kite surf, squash and board games.

    This session is tailored specifically to incubator/accelerator managers. In the beginning of the session doc. Lukeš will shortly present results from a survey done among incubators and accelerators across Europe. These data are based on SUPER Project research. We will follow up with a discussion of best practices and future development of business incubators in Europe. Incubators and accelerators are an important part of new venture support ecosystem. We know that running one is a hard job. We want to share experiences and inspiration among participants to make their life easier.

    Tomas is a lawyer and expert in venture capital transactions. Tomas holds an LL.M. from UC Hastings Law School (San Francisco), J.D. and Ph.D. from the Charles University Law School (Prague). Prior to establishing his own law firm focused on start-ups & technology, he worked for many years with a leading international law firm. Tomas is a co-founder of Angel Academy and author of free template documents for start-ups and investors in the Czech republic.

It is an organization designated to foster the entrepreneurial spirit of both current students and alumni of University of Economics, Prague and also other people interested in business and running their own ventures. We help innovative ideas and startups on their way to success by offering incubation and acceleration programs as well as participation of students on real business projects.
